EPDES2 960 - Teaching English To Young Learners
Next Sessions :
Beginning June 18, 2008
  A 5 week Evening/Morning Class. This class will meet Wednesday evenings, 5:30-8:30pm and Saturday mornings, 9:00am-12:30pm. There is no class scheduled on July 2 or July 5.

EPDES2 960 Teaching English to Young Learners
This course addresses the special language learning needs of children ages 5-11 in both second language and foreign language settings. The course will examine child development issues and second language acquisition as they relate to young learners. Instructional strategies (including the use of music and song, storytelling, movement, and drama) for increasing motivation and engagement will be practiced. Prerequisite: EPDES 930
NOTE: EPDES2 960 is not available for graduate status credit, but is applicable to certificates and endorsements

Instructor Biography
Ellen Barrett: MS in Elementary Education, Northern Illinois University; Certificate of Graduate Study in Teaching English as a Second Language and Bilingual Education, has taught EFL in Ecuador and Spain, taught elementary ESL in Illinois and currently teaches ESL in Renton, Washington. Ellen provides training to mainstream teachers on effective ESL practices, including SIOP. Ellen teaches in the evening program.
