Graduate Status Projects Steps to Follow and FAQ's

Your instructor will assign a Graduate Status Project at the end of your course. This project is required for those studying currently in Graduate Programs at Seattle University. Those not currently in programs are encouraged to complete this project as Seattle University will accept it into their various master's programs within a six year window.

Q: Who qualifies?
A: Anyone who has taken S-TESL courses as a post-baccalaureate student. In other words, you must have at least an undergraduate degree at the time of studying at S-TESL. You must receive a "B" grade or higher in the course to be able to submit a project. The specific "Guidelines for having S-TESL courses approved for use in master's programs at Seattle University" sheet is located in the S-TESL main office. You are responsible for knowing these guidelines.

Q: When is the project due?
A: The project is due one month from the ending date of your given course. Clarification: If your course ends on the 15th of a given month, it is due the 15th of the following month and so on. It is the student's responsibility to mark that date on their calendar!

Q: What if I can't complete the Graduate Status Project within the month?
A: Seattle University is very strict with deadlines. If you cannot complete the project within the month, you must request an extension by the original due date by emailing Kim Darcy at: hasegawa@seattleu.edu. Please, no phone calls as we need it in writing. If you do not complete the project after the extension deadline, you will not receive graduate credit for that class.

Q: Will I receive the project back?
A: No. Please make a copy for yourself before submitting the project to S-TESL.

Q: Can I email the project?
A: No. We need a hard copy.

Q: I'm finished with the project. What do I do?
A: Send the project to S-TESL attn: Kim Darcy (not your instructor). Include:
     1.   the Reflection Sheet (given to you by your instructor)
     2.   the $75 check payable to "S-TESL" (not your instructor)

Q: Can I bring the project in personally?
A: Yes, of course. PLEASE CALL FIRST. Our office hours vary. Normal office hours are Monday-Thursday 9:00-5:00 and Fridays from 9:00 - 2:30.

Q: Do you have a drop box or mail slot for the project?
A: No. Please do not leave the project outside or try to slip it under the door. There is not a secure location to leave it unattended. Also, please do not bother the tenants in the building, as they are unable to accept your project. If you need to make arrangements after hours, please call Kim Darcy.

Q: When will I receive word of pass/fail?
A: Allow approximately one month for your instructor to read the project. If your project is not accepted the first time, your instructor will ask for a re-write. The re-write request, with specific instructions from your instructor, will come from the S-TESL office and you will have an additional three weeks to complete the re-write. You do not need to pay any additional fees for a re-write.

Q: What do I do after the project has been accepted?
A: You will receive documentation from the S-TESL that explains what happens with the paperwork.

If you have more questions or need further clarification, please contact Kim Darcy, Director of Admissions: hasegawa@seattleu.edu or phone: 206-781-8607.
