Graduate Status Credit

General Information

Up to twelve credits taken at S-TESL can be used in graduate programs in the Seattle University College of Education. Credits earned at S-TESL can be protected for graduate status for a period of six years.

Who is eligible to protect credits for graduate status

Any student who takes an on-ground S-TESL courses as a post-baccalaureate student. Online classes are not eligible to be taken for graduate status credit.

The student must receive a "B" (3.0 GPA) grade or higher in the course to be able to submit a project for graduate status credit.

What is the process for protecting credits for graduate status?

  • Students request graduate status consideration at the beginning of each S-TESL class.
  • Upon completion of the class students are assigned an extra project by the course instructor.
  • The student has one month from the end of the class to submit the project. Students are expected to demonstrate in this project a higher level of analysis and synthesis than that required for post-baccalaureate credit coursework.
  • When the project is completed, it is submitted to S-TESL with an additional fee.
  • A reader, usually the course instructor, is assigned the project.
  • If the reader approves the project, confirmation documentation is sent to the student. If the project is not approved the reader will ask for a re-write, and the student will have an additional three weeks to complete the re-write.
