ELL Endorsement Program
   

Seattle University College of Education and the School of Teaching ESL have created a cooperative agreement that gives students many choices regarding continuing professional development in the teaching of English to speakers of other languages.

You can meet all Washington State OSPI requirements for an ELL Endorsement. You must have a valid Washington State teaching credential at the time you apply for an endorsement. On-line and onground credits can be applied to the endorsement.

IMPORTANT PROGRAM UPDATE

Beginning September 1, 2008, Seattle University ELL Endorsement candidates will need to meet the following requirements:

  1. Completion of 25 quarter credits of coursework, with a 3.0 GPA, with the following specifications:

    EPDES 930: TESOL Theory and Application (3 credits)
    EPDES 932: Teaching Grammar to ESOL Students (3 credits)
    EPDES 935: Cultural Variables in TESOL (3 credits)
    EPDES 938: Testing and Evaluating ESOL Students (3 credits)
    EPDES 940: Self-Analysis and Improvement (3 credits)
    EPDES 946: Professional Leadership in TESOL (1 credit)
    EPDES 936: Teaching Content to ELL (3 credits)
    or EPDES2 960 Teaching English to Young Learners**

    EPDES 931: Methods of Language Acquisition (3 credits)
    EPDES 933: Materials Selection and Development (3 credits)
    EPDES 934: Developing ESOL Literacy (3 credits)
    EPDES 937: Linguistics for ESOL Teachers (3 credits)
    EPDES 939: Student-Centered Learning in TESOL (3 credits)
    EPDES 942: Teaching English Pronunciation (3 credits)
    EPDES 945: Computer-Enhanced Language Teaching (3 credits)
    EPDES 944: Curriculum and Program Design in TESEOL (3 credits)

**Grades 6-12 teachers are advised to take EPDES 936. Grades K-5 teachers are advised to take EPDES2 960.
